CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: John Davies Knatchbull Lloyd was born in 1900. His family, who were originally tanners, had lived in Montgomery since the C17th. A Maurice Lloyd was bailiff of Montgomery in 1686/7. The Reverend Maurice Edward Lloyd was Rector between 1794 and 1830. JDK Lloyd was a local historian and contributed over 50 articles to the Montgomeryshire Collections. He served as town mayor, magistrate, churchwarden and lay reader, as well as both chairman and secretary to the Powysland Club. He died in 1978.

Archival history: After Mr Lloyd's death, his executor, Charles Evans passed the papers to family members. The collection then passed through several other family members and friends, eventually coming into the possession of Mrs Christine Churchill.
