CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: Roger Tiley is head of photography at Swansea College. He has been photographing miners since 1982, including during the strike of 1984/5. He has travelled to the USA to photograph women miners, publishing 'Merched y Cymoedd and the American Dream' in 1998; he also published a book about Tower Colliery.

Scope and content: Photographs of Ystradgynlais and area: chapels, miners, pit heads, ?mid C20th. Photocopy of an extract for Yniscedwyn iron works and colliery of 'Reports to the Commissioners on the Employment of Children', C19th
