CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: Bryan Palfrey was born in 1860, in Heyope and spent his youth in Cilibyddyr, Llanbister Road. He worked as a groom and gardener, who served in the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry. He married Lizzie Humphreys (born 1873), from Newtown, in Penstrowed. They moved to Shropshire, where Mr Palfrey worked for the Merediths (the parents of the novelist Mary Webb). Their son John was born in 1902, and Winifred their daughter in 1908. The family eventually settled in Hopesay, Shropshire.

CONTENT

Scope and content: Photographs and press cuttings of the Palfrey family, Late 19th century - 1976; 3 exercise books belonging to John Palfrey from military school, 1944; certificate sent to Mrs Palfrey in recognition of her hosting evacuees, c1946.
