Administrative and biographical history: Powys County Council was formed out of the 3 former counties of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Breconshire. The Technical & Local Services Directorate came into being in the reorganisation of the County Council in 1996; it took over the functions of the Highways, Architects and Environmental Health Departments


Scope and content: Most of the files relate to the proposed extension of Craig Goch dam in the Elan Valley, Radnorshire. In the 1970s plans were drawn up greatly to increase the size of the dam, and thus the reservoir. The project was abandoned in 1981. Other files on: Lyn Brianne reservoir in Breconshire and reservoirs in general. Also, Welsh Office Register of Reservoirs.
