Administrative and biographical history: Planning applications for a vaccuum pyrolysis wood burning power station at the Western Softwoods site near Newbridge-on-Wye were submitted to Powys County Council in 1997 and 2000. Mr Speake was then the local County Councillor; he opposed the applications, which were both refused.
