Administrative and biographical history: John Whitticas Davies collected photocopies of wills and administrations relating to Montgomeryshire (in the dioceses of St Asaph and Bangor and the archdiocese of Canterbury). Up until 1858, wills relating to property within a single diocese were proved in the ecclesiastical court of that diocese (whose records are now in the National Library of Wales). Wills relating to property in more than one diocese were proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (these are now in The National Archives, formerly the Public Record Office).


Scope and content: Photocopies, [late 20th century], of wills and administrations (1567-1754) relating to individuals in Berriew, Betws Cedewain, Carno, Llanbrynmair, Llandinam, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanidloes, Llanllugan, Llanllwchaiarn, Llanwnog, Llanwyddelan, Manafon, Trefeglwys, Tregynon and Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and London; and printed books, 1910-1950.
