Administrative and biographical history: Civil parish councils were established by the Local Government Act 1894; their records include minute books, financial statements, correspondence, copies of planning applications, and rate lists. Criggion was a township in the Shropshire ecclesiastical parish of Alberbury until 1864 when it was amalgamated with Bausley to form the ecclesiastical parish of Criggion in Montgomeryshire. Both townships were made into civil parishes in 1894 but amalgamated in 1939.
