Administrative and biographical history: Powysland Museum was founded in 1874 in Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. It became the responsibility of Powys County Council in 1974. Over time the museum acquired archival material. Welshpool dispensary was opened in an old woollen warehouse in 1827. In 1849 the upper rooms were used as an emergency hospital during a cholera epidemic.
Scope and content: Papers of Powysland Museum, 1790-1960, including deeds relating to Welshpool Dispensary, 1868-1960; deeds relating to Welshpool and Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire, 1790-1915; miscellaneous solicitors' papers, 1836-1845; miscellaneous letters, 1838-1888.
