Administrative and biographical history: Machynlleth Poor Law Union was established in 1839 following the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834. It consisted of 11 parishes in Montgomeryshire and Merionethshire. Among the officers of the Union was the Relieving Officer, responsible for evaluating the cases of people applying for relief. Machynlleth Union was abolished in 1930 and its last Relieving Officer was Ivor Jones of Cemmaes Road.
Scope and content: Papers of Ivor Jones, Relieving Officer, 1922-1930, relating mainly to the cases of Mary Davies, Pennal, Merionethshire, and Ann Davies, Cemmaes, including letters, 1923-1930; bills and receipts, 1930.
