Administrative and biographical history: Following the Public Health Act of 1848 and the Local Government Act of 1858, local boards of health such as the Builth and Hay Local Board of Health were established. They looked after street cleaning, sewerage and highways and other issues relating to public health. The local boards were incorporated into urban sanitary authorities under the Public Health Act of 1872. here are records relating to the Builth Board of Health and to the Hay Board of Health. The functions of the Hay Board of Health passed to the Hay Urban District Council in 1894.
Scope and content: Records of the Local Boards of Health, Powys, 1864-1894, mainly minutes, relating to the Builth Local Board of Health, 1866-1892; and records relating to the Hay Local Board of Health, 1864-1894.
