The Welsh Church Commission (formally entitled 'The Commissioners of Church Temporalities in Wales') came into existence in September 1914 to take over the management of Church property and the distribution of revenue, including the tithe rent-charge and its calculation. Since 1836 the payment of tithes to the Church in kind had been replaced by money payments - the tithe rent-charge. This was abolished by the Tithe Act 1936.
