Administrative and biographical history: In 1948 the Mid Wales Police Authority was established with the amalgamation of the three separate police authorities of Breconshire, Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire under a single Chief Constable. It was superseded in 1968 by the Dyfed-Powys Police Authority which amalgamated the M.W.P.A. with the police forces of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The M.W.P.A. had three Chief Constables: Captain H.C. Lloyd, R.E.G. Benbow, and Mr. R.B. Thomas. The records are mainly administrative files.
Scope and content: Records relating to the Mid Wales Police Authority, mainly administrative files, 1948-1968, including housing programmes, 1950-1971; police building returns, 1954-1959; pensions, 1948-1964; records relating to civil defence, 1949-1967; records relating to police officers, 1947-1968; financial records, 1937-1969; correspondence, 1948-1967; insurance, 1950-1968; and records relating to the Dyfed-Powys Police Authority, 1853-1987.
