Administrative and biographical history: The Land Tax was a tax dependent upon the area and value of land. Assessments list the names of the owner and occupier of the land, the location of the tenement, the area of land, and the rate due. The assessment and collection of the tax was the responsibility of the Board of Inland Revenue, organised on a county-by-county basis.

Archival history: Records deposited 3rd July 1984 by Mr K Mason, curator of Brecknock Museum. These records formed part of a collection left behind in the Old Museum by Breconshire CC. Most were concerned with the Clerk's Department; other groups of records, including these were apparently placed in the care of the Clerk for safe keeping.
