Administrative and biographical history: From the late 19th century responsibility for water provision in Brecknockshire lay with borough and rural district councils or sanitary authorities. Following the Water Act 1945, water companies and boards began to amalgamate. The Welsh Water Authority was created in 1974 and replaced the existing water boards in Wales. The Caerfanell Reservoir, Talybont, Brecknockshire, was constructed in the 1930s to provide water for Newport, Monmouthshire. The Bronllys Water and Sewage Works, Brecknockshire, were constructed by Hay Rural Sanitary Authority in the late 19th century.
Scope and content: Records collected by the Welsh Water Authority, 1718-1959, mainly relating to Caerfanell Reservoir, Talybont, including deeds and related papers, 1718-1959. The fonds also includes plans relating to a fish pass on the River Honddu, Castle Street Weir, Brecon, 1958; records relating to Bronllys Water and Sewage Works, 1877-1927.
