Administrative and biographical history: Howell, Jones and Howell, later Howell, Jones and Yearsley, was a firm of solicitors based in Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. The firm was established by Abraham Howell (1810-1893), of Llanbrynmair. He became a solicitor in 1840 and joined the firm of Jones and Parry, dissolved in 1848. Howell subsequently established his own practice with his brother-in-law, Edward Jones (1830-1900), and W. Pryce Yearsley (died 1871). Later partners in the firm were C. Pryce Yearsley (fl. 1898-1907) and Howell's sons, William Mark Howell and Charles Edward Howell (1846-1906). Abraham was County Treasurer, JP and Mayor of Welshpool four times. Edward Jones served as town clerk for Welshpool and clerk of the Urban Sanitary Authority from 1866, while Charles Edward Howell was Mayor of Welshpool in 1894.


Scope and content: Papers relating to the solicitors' firm of Howell, Jones and Howell, later Howell, Jones and Yearsley, [1845]-1938, comprising administrative and personal records of the solicitors, 1857-1907, including accounts and other records of Edward Jones, 1867-1895, personal, legal and financial papers of Abraham and C. E. Howell, 1861-1907, and letter books of C. Pryce Yearsley, 1898-1907; legal papers, tenancy agreements, schedules of deeds and other documents relating mainly to the Pughe and Jones families of Llanfyllin, 1853-1938; and miscellaneous papers relating to clients of the firm, [1845]-1921.
