CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: Thomas Woosnam (fl. 1807-1824) of Builth, Brecknockshire, skinner (1807) and esquire (1824), bequeathed his estate in Castle Houses and Meadow, Builth, to his brother, Bowen Woosnam (d. 1841), of Glandwr, Montgomeryshire, gentleman. He was succeeded by his son, Richard Woosnam (d. 1888), esquire, described in 1860 as 'of the Knapp in the parish of Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire, and of Glandwr, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire'. He was survived by three sons, Bowen Pottinger Woosnam, of Ty'n-y-graig, Brecknockshire, Richard Burgess Woosnam, of Newton Abbot, Devon, and Charles William Woosnam (fl. 1890-1901), of Cefnllysgwynne, near Builth. A Evan Woosnam is described as deceased in 1909.

Scope and content: Deeds relating to the Woosnam estate in the parishes of Builth, Diserth, Gwenddwr, Llanganten, Llanynys and Maesmynys in Brecknockshire, 1796-1908, and in Llangurig and Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, 1708-1888, and wills and deeds relating to the Woosnam estates in general, 1829-1909.
