Administrative and biographical history: District Councils were formed in 1974 following local government reorganisation and the abolition of urban and rural district councils. Radnorshire District Council's responsibilities included local planning, housing, environmental health, cemeteries and leisure services. The Council was absorbed into Powys County Council in 1996 after local government reorganisation.


Scope and content: Records of Radnorshire District Council, 1868-1996, consisting of records of the Chief Executive's department, consisting of minute books, 1973-1996; councillors' declarations of acceptance of office, 1973-1995; records of council member attendances, 1973-1988; registers of seals, 1965-1996; correspondence relating to burial grounds, 1974-1982; records relating to the John ap Hugh charity, 1934-1977; registers of electors, Radnor district, 1985-1994; deeds and agreements relating to lands in Knighton, 1868-1981; Llandrindod Wells, 1892-1979; Nantmel, 1912-1983; Newbridge-on-Wye, 1953-1974; Painscastle, 1965; and Presteigne, 1878-1979; and Treasurer's department scrapbooks, 1973-1996.
