Administrative and biographical history: In 1610, Trewylan, in the parish of Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire, was held by Robert Lloyd and John Lloyd, his son and heir apparent. In 1611, John Lloyd sold Trewylan to Hugh Derwas, of Penrhos, Montgomeryshire. Robert Tanat was living at Trewylan in 1639, as was Edward Tanat in 1647, and David Tanat in 1680. By 1698, Hugh Davies of Collfryn, Montgomeryshire, owned Trewylan. The Davies family retained possession of the Trewylan estate until the 20th century. A Charles Llewelyn Davies was described as "of Manitoba, Canada", between 1881 and 1892, and his brother, Thomas John Davies, as "of Edgbaston", Warwickshire, between 1881 and 1933.


Scope and content: Deeds and documents relating to the Tanat and Davies families of Trewylan, Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire, mainly family and related wills and copy wills, 1682-1779, correspondence, 1774-1933, and legal papers, 1871-1891.
