Administrative and biographical history: Penybryn, Edern, Caernarfonshire, was owned by the Humphreys family in the 18th century. Maurice Humphreys (d. ) bequeathed Penybryn to his son, Thomas Humphreys (d. 1782). He left Penybryn to his maid, Mary Williams (d. ). She married John Jones (fl. 1787-1806), son of Methusalem Jones of Amlwch, Anglesey. John's brother, Hugh Jones (fl. 1785-1794), was taken prisoner during the Anglo-American War of the 1770s and subsequently settled in Georgia, USA. Mary Jones left Penybryn to her nephew Evan Roberts.
Scope and content: Deeds and other documents relating to Penybryn and other properties mainly in Edern, Nefyn, Caernarfonshire, 1609-1906; letters, 1760-1928, including correspondence of Thomas Humphreys, 1760-1771, correspondence of Mary and John Jones, 1777-1794, and letters of Hugh Jones, Georgia, to his family, 1785-1794; and miscellaneous papers, 1788-1871, including religious notes, sermons and hymns.
