Administrative and biographical history: Abraham Foulkes (fl. 1853-1872) of Newbridge, Ruabon, Denbighshire, was a surveyor. His siblings included John Foulkes, of Everton, Liverpool, and Elizabeth Gilles of Cefn, Ruabon. His work was mainly in Denbighshire and Flintshire, but he also worked elsewhere in Wales. He was involved with local bodies including Ruabon School Board and the Plas Madoc estate.
Scope and content: Letters and circulars addressed to Abraham Foulkes, 1862-1871, concerning business and personal matters; correspondence relating to 'Pontcysyllte Forge', 1871-1872, Cefn Water Works, 1871, Ruabon School Board, 1871, and the financial situation of Mr E. Thomas, Hay, Brecknockshire, 1871; business and personal letters to A. Foulkes from Elizabeth Gilles, 1862-1865, and John Foulkes, 1871; miscellaneous documents, 1853-1871, including a notebook, 1853-1860, and calculation concerning coal yards and pits, 1855-1860; miscellaneous accounts, 1861-[c. 1869]; documents relating to royalty accounts for Plas Madoc, 1854-1862; records relating to the North Wales Advertising Board, 1909-1968; and newspaper cuttings book of the Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Electric Railway Ltd, 1907.
