Name of creator(s): A. Leslie Evans
Administrative and biographical history: Leslie Evans (1911-1996) was an enthusiastic collector and prolific writer on the local historyof his native Port Talbort. A schoolteacher by profession, he was also a gifted poet and artist, illustrating many of his own publications. He wrote numerous books, monographs and articles on the Port Talbot district. He was chairman of the Port Talbot Historical Society from 1958 until 1996 and editor of the Society's Transactions. He was also chairman of the Kenfig Society. A fuller biography by John Vivian Hughes is given in the Annual Report of the County Archivist 1997-1998.
Scope and content: This collection includes a small number of papers relating to collieries and minerals, 1877-1900. These include mineral leases for the parishes of Llangynwyd and Bettws, 1877 & 1896; Penllwyngwent Colliery rent papers, 1897-1898; Letter re: Workmen's Compensation Act (1897), 1898; Aberbaiden Colliery letter, 1900; Plan of the lower Goetre Valley, c.1880s
