Name of creator(s): The Swansea Tontine Association
Administrative and biographical history: The Swansea Tontine Association was a financial scheme by which subscribers to the common fund each received an annuity during their life which increased as the number of members diminished by death. This meant the last survivor enjoyed the whole income. The result of this scheme was the row of houses on Tontine Street situated at the top end of High Street, near St John's Parish church, Swansea.

System of arrangement: The collection was originally catalogued at University College Library, Swansea, where an interpretation of the original order was made. This catalogue lists the items chronologically under the headings stated in Scope and content.

Immediate source of acquisition: The records were originally held at The Royal Institution of South Wales, Swansea. From 1966 onwards the records were moved to the library in the University College, Swansea in consignments. They were transferred to West Glamorgan Archive Service in the Spring of 2004.
