Administrative and biographical history: The Lucas family have been living on the Gower peninsula for at least 500 years. They have been traced back to one Jeffrey Lucas who lived probably in Reynoldston parish. The Lucas family have been well documented. Besides the documents found within this collection, details of the family can also be found in the Bennett Pedigree book (RISW GGF 2, pp. 158-161). The Lucas family lived at Stouthall in the parish of Reynoldston.

System of arrangement: The collection was originally catalogued at University College Library, Swansea, where an interpretation of the original order was made. This catalogue lists the items chronologically under the headings stated in Scope and content.

Immediate source of acquisition: The records were originally held at The Royal Institution of South Wales, Swansea. From 1966 onwards the records were moved to the library in the University College, Swansea in consignments. They were transferred to West Glamorgan Archive Service in the Spring of 2004.
