Administrative and biographical history: Rodericks, solicitors, of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, accumulated papers relating to the Castell Gorfod estate, Llangynin, Carmarthenshire. The Bowen family gained the estate following the marriage of George Bowen of Llwyngwair (1722-1810) and Esther Thomas, daughter of William Thomas of Pentowyn. The Bowens owned Castell Gorfod until 1871, when James Bevan Bowen (1828-1905), son of George Bowen, sold the property to James Buckley of Penfai (1802-1883), Llanelli, the son of the Rev. James Buckley of Cilfig House, Llanelli. The Buckley family continued to hold the estate until the late 20th century.
Scope and content: Deeds and documents, 1815-1931, mainly relating to the Bowen and Buckley families of the Castell Gorfod estate, Carmarthenshire; documents relating to Cilfig House, Llanelli, 1835-1897; and Llanwinio tithe payment schedules, 1903-1931.
