Administrative and biographical history: Ken (Kendrick) Etheridge (1911-1981) was a poet, playwright and painter from Ammanford, Carmarthenshire. He attended Swansea College of Art and University College, Cardiff, then taught art at Queen Elizabeth Boys' Grammar School, Carmarthen, from 1947. He wrote numerous plays in both English and Welsh and was a producer with the Cymric Players of Ammanford from 1935. He published plays, collections of poetry, books on Welsh folk-costume, stage costume and scenic design, including Underground (1937), The Lamp (London, 1937), Songs of Courage (Llandysul, 1940), Birds of Rhiannon (1941), Poems of a Decade (Hull, 1958), Welsh Costume in the 18th and 19th Century (Llandybie, 1977), and Collected Drawings (London, 1970).
Scope and content: Papers of Ken Etheridge, 1935-1979, comprising copies of plays and sketches of varying lengths in English and Welsh, some written for radio and television, English novels, poetry and certificates.
