Administrative and biographical history: James Maurice (b. 1800) of Ruthin, Denbighshire, was a JP, Deputy Lieutenant for Denbighshire, and was Mayor of Ruthin four times. He was the son of Thelwall Maurice of Marlborough, Wiltshire, MD, and was born at Marlborough. He was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, 1853, and practiced as a solicitor in Ruthin; he was involved in elections in the 1850s, and Ruthin Savings Bank.
Scope and content: Deeds, 1807-1865, relating to properties in Denbighshire, Flintshire, Caernarfonshire and Wiltshire; legal papers, correspondence and other papers relating to the estates of James Maurice's clients, [c. 1804]-1871; personal papers of James Maurice, including diaries, [18th century]-1862; papers relating to Ruthin, [c. 1850]-1862, the county rates, 1853-1871, Ruthin Savings Bank, 1860-1862, Denbigh Boroughs elections, 1852-1857, the Church, 1856-1860, education, 1738-1860, and roads and railways, 1845-1863.
