Administrative and biographical history: Civil parish councils were established by the Local Government Act 1894, taking over responsibilities from parish vestry meetings. The records can include minute books, financial statements, correspondence, copies of planning applications, and rate lists. Community councils replaced parish councils under the local government reorganization in 1974. Bersham parish, until 1974 in Denbighshire, then in Clwyd, and now in Wrexham County Borough, is located close to the town of Wrexham. Burial Boards, including Bersham Parish Burial Board, were set up in the 19th century to manage public cemeteries; they later passed on their functions to parish and district councils.
