Administrative and biographical history: Edward Hughes, J. P., MBE, of Wrexham Fechan, Wrexham, Denbighshire (1862-1938), was the son of Joseph and Jane Hughes. He married Margaret Armstrong (d. 1947) in 1888, and had several children, including William Allen, Gwendoline, Dorothie, Edna and Jane Hughes. He worked as a book-keeper in Wrexham, and later owned shares in Cambrian Leatherworks, Wrexham, owned by Meredith Jones and Sons. He became a member of Wrexham Town Council in 1898, Mayor of Wrexham, 1906-1908, and Alderman of the Borough of Wrexham, 1907-1935. He was interested in business, public affairs, politics, local government, local and family history research, holding membership of many societies and clubs as well as business interests in the Wrexham area. After his death, further papers were collected and added by his family.
