Administrative and biographical history: Arthur Roberts, later Foulkes-Roberts, (1864-1941), was the son of Peter Roberts JP, chemist, of St Asaph, Denbighshire, who descended from the Foulkes family of Llechryd, Llannefydd, Denbighshire. Arthur Foulkes-Roberts began practising as a solicitor in Denbigh, Denbighshire, in 1888. He married Susannah Jones-Morris in 1890. They had five sons and a daughter. He left Denbigh in 1925, and later settled at Goring, Oxfordshire. The third son, Arthur David Foulkes-Roberts (1896-1964) served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers in Norfolk in WW1; he then qualified as a solicitor, articled to his father, and spent his career in the Estate Duty Office at Somerset House, London, retiring in 1956, to Gyffin in the Conwy Valley. He shared the interest of his brother, David Swynford Foulkes-Roberts, in railways, and was assistant organist at Oxhey Church, Watford. He died in 1964. The family accumulated a large collection of family history, genealogy and historical material.
