Administrative and biographical history: The Neath Antiquarian Society was established in 1923, for the study of the history of Neath and district. It has acquired several archive collections whose origins can be demonstrated with some accuracy, which are listed elsewhere. It has also collected a variety of deeds and other legal papers, mainly relating to the Neath area, which are described here.
Scope and content: Deeds of premises in Breconshire, 1549-1865; deeds of premises in Carmarthenshire, 1777-1813; deeds of premises in Glamorgan, 1581-1890; deeds of premises in Pembrokeshire, 1758-1877; deeds of properties in England, 1684-1842; deeds of properties in Canada, 1893-1927; bonds, 1621-1789; family settlements, 1840-1855; marriage settlements, 1616-1861; grants of probate, letters of administration and copy wills, 1620-1886; legal papers relating to court cases and settlements, 1606-1889; writs, affidavits and orders issued by specific courts, 1658-1865.
