Administrative and biographical history: The Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Society was formed in 1891 to improve local crops, livestock and farming methods. The first agricultural show was held at the Cowbridge cattle market on 27 September 1892. The society is still in existence. Its predecessor, the Glamorgan General Agricultural Society, was founded in 1772 and dissolved in 1906.
