Administrative and biographical history: Influenced by the success of the agricultural co-operative movement in Ireland, a number of societies began to appear in South Wales at the turn of the century. The Agricultural Organisation Society was active in Wales from 1902 onwards, initially administered from London, but after 1906, with a local organiser. In 1914, a south Wales section was formed, followed in 1919, by a Welsh Provincial Council. All matters relating to Welsh agricultural co-operation were transferred to the Welsh Agricultural Organisation Society from 1 April 1922. The Society accumulated the records of individual cooperative ventures, and also collected infromation about agriculture in general.
