CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: Messrs Longmores was a firm of solictors, active 1915, based in Hertford, Hertfordshire. They accumulated a collection of papers arising from the arbitration by Sir Hugh Owen, G.C.B., on the Financial Adjustment made between the Glamorgan County Council, Cardiff County Council and Swansea County Council, in 1911, and a subsequent appeal to the Kings Bench.

CONTENT

Scope and content: Longmore Papers, 1875-1915, include: minutes of evidence taken before the commissioners under the Local Government Act 1888, 1892; Local Government Board inquiry, and arbitration; correspondence, briefs to counsel, statistics, precedents, etc, 1907-1909; arbitration; minutes of proceedings, correspondence, instructions to counsel, statistices, etc, 1909-1912; arbitration. Correspondence, instructions to counsel, opinions of counsel, memoranda, arbitrator's award, synopsis of history of case, etc, 1909-1914; shorthand notes of arbitration proceedings and award of Sir Hugh Owen, G.C.B., the arbitrator, 1913; financial statements, 1911; award of arbitrator, 1913; appeal from judgement in special case in King's Bench Division - minutes of proceedings, 1911-1915; and miscellaneous papers, 1875-1915.
